I really hope that this bill gets passed so that I can have help supporting my family and paying the utility bills. I have been tracking it, and am frustrated that not more has been done with it. It also seems to me that it is taking at least a year for people 57 and older to find quality work. Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the house said this is an issue that could be looked at after the stimulus package was approved. She didn't want it held up. (Missed by one vote). But Bush opposes the unemployment extensions? whats more important? Conrad said the stimulus bill will not be offset. The budget resolution will designate the stimulus bill as emergency spending. Conrad said the next stimulus package is designed to sweep in "things that were left out of the previous stimulus package." He also pointed to CBO's analysis that an unemployment extension and food stamp increases are most likely to have an immediate positive impact on the economy. Out of 217, I have ONLY interviewed twice. One for a production line position and one for sales position. However, Bush completely opposed any extensions and as a result the revised senate bill fell one vote short on February 5th. Pelosi (D-CA.) refused to continue the fight and called for a vote on the original house bill, and that is what was passed the following day. Currently, the senate bill (no.2544) and the house bill (no.4934) are still on the floor. These bills are the only chance for immediate extensions of benefits. Unfortuneately, Bush could care less and the rest of the republicans would rather concentrate on important issues like weather Roger Clemens took steroids or not. Everyone needs to write, e-mail or call their senators and representatives to let them know that we need action taken on these unemployment bills NOW! We will receive some response on the extensions if everyone can contact their reps as soon as possible. These introduced bills are sitting there waiting for action if we can all voice our opinion on the urgency of the situation. I live in Michigan with the highest unemployment rate in the country. I lost my job after 28 years with the same company when they decided to leave the state. Beleive me, it doesn't get any worse than Michigan right now. There is no work and the 6,000 of us that were laid off from my company ran out of unemployment in mid January. I have been unemployed since 7/07, in the title company industry for 30 years. I have been unable to find a job, went back to school, which was like pulling teeth to get EDD to approve that. Looked for a job all summer, no luck, applied over 100 jobs, very few interviews, very disappointing. Never been unemployed before, not a good feeling. What sense does it make to give someone a 600.00 rebate that makes 75,000.00 a year in income... I personally have never made over 23,000.00 a year and I got by on that....I may have not had a nice boat, car or owned my own home but hey I got by...Ive been barely getting by on unemployment payments which is ceasing to exist in 1 week....I'm pretty damn sure those making over 50,000.00 a year could learn to get by....Perhaps they should teach those in the upper class to learn to get by just in case they need to now and then.....Then the unemployed might be able to exist until bush is out of office. and we get A Commander and Chief who is here for the people who work the hardest in this country..... OH yhea the unemployment in this country is higher then politicians would lead you to believe....since those who have exhausted their benefits and still looking for work are not included in the calculation.... What is the likely hood of getting an extension for I unemployment payments.... If that's looking bleak how about waving those student loans I used to make myself more employable.... And how about a program to provide the employed with the some cash to pay car payments, and insurance, and medical bills .... And last but not least.... It says exactly how I feel - Your American People are crying out to you! Why does no one listen? Must we be a foreign country to be heard? You live all nice and cozy in your home. You eat your three meals a day. You have your nice car(s) and you are able to take care of your family. We cannot do this anymore. What are we supposed to live on? Do we take our children out of college? Private school? You wouldn't. I have never been so disappoint in my country, the one I was born and raised in and was once very proud of. What happened to the morals of this country? If this government is so broke right now, what will they have to do when Americans need to start applying for welfare, etc.? Has anymore thought of that? Where will you go and borrow the money from this time? Back to China? Maybe Saudi Arabia will help out. I have never been unemployed before and I have two checks left. I cannot find a job at my wonderful age of 54 and I have been in the same business for the past 10+ years. Do I go back to school and put another bill on my head while I get to sleep in the street? What do I do with my 76 mother whom I take care of? Would you like her to live in the street with me too? What happened to the heart of this country? But do me a favor, make sure that President George Bush gets all the money he needs for this "so called" war. Extensions have been available for Americans at times with less unemployment. How are things so deferent now? Is the government discriminating against the Americans that need extensions? The Republican Party has made very wrong dissensions about what is require to help our economy. For one, the people who are eligible for unemployment extensions should be outraged from not getting extensions. Second, there not even ready to talk about emergence health care for the unemployed and homeless. Third, property taxes are higher than what older people get in social security. Forth, food is going up thirty percent over night because of fuel prices. The Republican Party has no common cents and You’re out of the Whitehouse. Unemployment extensions An Emergence health care system for unemployed and homeless. For people with an income of only social security there taxes should be paid after they die from the sale of their home. It contains 35 Billion for Unemployment extensions and food programs if needed. I think they are needed now. Write your congressman and tell them we need it now. I just returned home from the 56th interview since my lay off in September of 2007. Having worked hard for the last 30 years but now, I am facing living on the street if I don't obtain employment by the 10th of this month. I will take these last few days to write my congressman. But truly, I have no fight, or hope left! In 5 days I will be on the street and at the end of the month I will loose my car after making 35 payments. Good luck to all U.S. citzens that my have any unemployment benefits left. Start preparing for when you run out and you still don't have a job! Write your letter to congress today!
